I feel the DAN Govt has done the right thing by turning down the proposal to set up the State Commission for Women (SCW) as per your news item, “DAN Govt turns down the State Commission for Women”, dated October 23.
I have been necessitated to comment in the sense that such a Commission is highly necessary only in a Hindu society (or a Muslim society sometimes). But this is imperative only in a Hindu nation like India where there is gender discrimination based on the evil practice called the Caste System; Dowry System; Sati system in renewed form; frequent rape incidents; etc. Such practices, except the last one, are absent in our country like Nagaland. So, it is justified for now. Thanks for having an egalitarian form of Society that exists in Naga Society. The equality and the uniformity that are found in Nagaland had nothing to do with the Caste system/Hindu culture or other systems which discriminate women and other weaker sections of the society.
