Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister P. Paiwang Konyak today said that the priority of the state government has always been to provide comprehensive health infrastructure to all the citizens of the state.

“Our proactive approach is to ensure healthcare that is accessible, affordable and available to all at the right time and in the right place,” he said while addressing the inaugural session of ECHO India Partner Launch Training here today at Hotel Vivor, Kohima.

When Nagaland attained statehood, our health infrastructure was under-equipped with limited access to advanced medical technologies and trained healthcare professionals, he said.

Today, healthcare facilities in the state have been significantly enhanced in all the district hospitals, the Minister said, adding that the state has TB and Chest Disease Hospitals, a State Mental Health Institute, Community Health Centres and Nagaland’s first Medical College in the state capital.

He said that construction of Mon Medical College is in full swing and laying of foundation stone for Nursing College in Kohima and Mon are in the pipeline.

H &FW Dept to introduce more services under CMHIS
The Minister informed that the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) is designed specifically for the people of Nagaland. This scheme, launched in collaboration with the Central Government's Ayushman Bharat scheme is a significant step toward achieving Nagaland's 2030 Sustainable Development Goal, which was launched in August 2021, he said.

“This goal strives to guarantee that all citizens of Nagaland have access to fair, economical, and high-quality medical care by 2030,” he said, adding that the department is contemplating to introduce more services under the CMHIS in the coming days.
“This will achieve the intent of comprehensive healthcare infrastructure in the state,” he said.

Any permanent and indigenous residents of the state who are not enrolled in Ayushman Bharat or any other publicly funded insurance program can be covered under CMHIS, he added.

Later, the minister released ECHO’s Bulletin entitled ‘Strengthening health care systems in Nagaland & Northeast India through partnership and innovation.’
