State govt reschedule mega cleanliness drive to Sept 30

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): Heeding to the objection raised against the nationwide cleanliness drive called on October 1, a Sunday from different quarters, particularly church organizations, the Nagaland Government on Wednesday announced its decision to take part in the mega cleanliness drive on September 30 (Saturday) at 10 am, instead of October 1, on account of the designated day falling on a Sunday. 

An office memorandum issued by Abhijit Sinha, Principal Secretary, Home Department informed that all Deputy Commissioners have been designated as nodal offices for planning, taking measures as necessary, and coordinating with all the ULB Administrators for the urban areas, and all the BDOs for the rural areas, and district officers of other departments/agencies as may be required. At the state level, the nodal officer for overall coordination of the entire cleanliness drive will be the Commissioner of Nagaland. 

This is to ensure successful execution of all the activities in regard to the cleanliness drive in the districts in line with the instruction as given in the letter from the Government of India, the memorandum stated. 

According to directives from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, the Government of India, as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada - Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023, announced for a massive cleanliness drive led by the people across the country as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The designated date for the cleanliness drive is scheduled on October 1, 2023 at 10 am, on the eve of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. The Prime Minster and other dignitaries would also be joining the swachhata activities on the ground.
