THE CENTRE has asked the Nagaland State Government to submit its Action Plan, along with a list of habitations to be covered under the ambitious Bharat Nirman project for rural development. All the other states and Union Territories have also been told to do the same.
The Action Plan will facilitate preparation of a road map for achieving the goals set out under the Bharat Nirman project for creating infrastructure like roads, water supply and housing in rural India, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was quoted according to Press Trust of India.
The Rs 1,76,000 crore Bharat Nirman project comprising six components -- bringing additional one crore hectare under assured irrigation, connecting all villages with roads, constructing 60 lakh additional houses for the poor, providing drinking water to 74,000 uncovered habitations, electricity to 1,25,000 villages and telephone connection to remaining 66,822 villages. Speaking to The Morung Express, Toshi Aier, Principal Secretary Rural Development, disclosed that the action plan for the state was under process. “We are in the process of formulating the plan,” he said. It was further informed that six to seven departments would benefit from the Bharat Nirman Project. The Nagaland RD action plan will be tabled soon, according to the senior bureaucrat.
