State level Pre-Subroto-cum-Junior Football Tournament 2024 kicks off in Kohima

The State Level Pre-Subroto-cum-Junior Football Tournament 2024 for U-15 Boys and U-17 Girls commenced today at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima under the aegis of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland and Nagaland Football Association (NFA).

Gracing the opening ceremony, MLA Benei M Lamthiu commended the department of Youth Resources & Sports for organising such tournament for the first time in the state.

He was optimistic that this tournament would give a big boost to the young footballers and take football to a new height. With the support of the state government, the NFA is striving to develop and bring up more professionalism in the field of football in the state, Lamthiu said, who is also general secretary of NFA. Very soon, he said, we are coming up with state league of our own. We (NFA) are also trying our best to develop and uplift football in our state, he said.

Gone are the days when we look sports or football just as a hobby. Today, in this modern world, football is now a global industry, he said adding “It is high time we take serious note about football. We should not only take it as a hobby. But, we should take sports and football as a career,”

Maintaining that sport provides a lot of career options, he encouraged the youngsters to take up sports seriously and make a career out of it.

Anthony Ngullie, secretary to Government of Nagaland, Department of Youth Resources & Sports  informed that this Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament is part of the department yearly activity to expose the talents of the younger generation and prepare for future tournament.

Under the leadership and continuous support of Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Youth Resources & Sports Advisor S Keoshu Yimkhiung, he said the department is progressing by leaps and bounds.

Ngullie also commended the director and officials of the Youth Resources & Sports department for performing excellent job and streamlining various activities of the department.

Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports Director Kethosituo Sekhose said that this tournament has been organised in order to identify talents and also to identify team which will represent the state at Subroto Mukherjee Cup, likely to be held in the later part of July this year.

This tournament will continue till June 12.
