KOHIMA, OCTOBER 9 (MExN): The Tribal Research Institute, under the Department of Tribal Affairs, Nagaland, organized a State Level Tribal Painting Competition for tribal students on Wednesday at the Deputy Commissioner Office, Kohima, in collaboration with the District Administration and District Education Office (DEO), Kohima. The event was part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh 2024-25 celebrations, themed “My State My Pride.”
A total of 36 students from 18 schools under DEO Kohima participated in the competition, showcasing their creativity and artistic skills.
The winners included Josinlo Kemp (Bayavü Higher Secondary School) in first place, Nisuka (Bayavü Higher Secondary School) in second, and Watlong Wangha (GHSS Jotsoma) in third. Consolation prizes went to Lerao (GHS Midland), Bupenmongko Chang (GHS Bayavü), and Chekehie Akami (GHSS Jotsoma). All winners received cash prizes and citations, while participants were awarded certificates of appreciation.
The judging panel comprised Y Ayem Kongyak, Khrieketounou Lizietsu, and K. Onglingaku Chang.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Kohima B Henok Buchem, NCS praised the students’ work as professional and beyond their age. He shared a story of a young artist who turned his passion into a career and urged students to overcome distractions such as mobile phones and social media. “Interest without talent won’t last, and talent without interest won’t bring joy,” he added, advising students to balance their interests and strengths when planning careers.
TL Kiusumong Tikhir, Joint Secretary for Tribal Affairs, highlighted the importance of encouraging tribal students to showcase their talent while honoring the legacy of tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The programme was chaired by EAC Kohima Khriethozo and attended by officials from the Department of Tribal Affairs, District Administration, DEO, teachers, and students from participating schools.
