Kohima, October 13 (MExN): A state level workshop on Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2021 took place at the Conference hall of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Drectorate, Kohima on October 12.
PHED Nagaland Secretary, Kesonyü Yhome addressed the gathering at the workshop. An overview on SSG 2021 was presented by the team leader of IPSOS Research Pvt Ltd. The programme was chaired by Thenusou Sekhose, HRD Consultant, Sanitation and WSSO PHED while welcome address was delivered by N Thsathrichem Sangtam, Chief Engineer, Sanitation and WSSO PHED.

The department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti has been carrying out SSG since 2018. SSG has been evolving and gaining strength with each passing year. It started with the assessment of 7000 villages in 2018, now grew upto 17,200 villages in 2019 and will cover approximately 17,500 villages in 2021. The on-field data collection will be done in between October 25 to December 23 this year.
The objective of SSG 2021 is to encourage large scale citizen participation, rank states and districts according to key swachhata parameters, compare the performance of districts and states, ascertain progress of Swachhata on the ground through a survey, engage and solicit feedback from citizens and evaluate implementation of Solid and Liquid Waste Management arrangements in the districts.
Additionally, SSG 2021 also intends to foster a spirit of healthy competition among the districts to improve the service delivery and work towards creating a cleaner India. This was stated in a release issued by Thepfulie, State IEC Consultant, Sanitation & WSSO, PHED.
