State to showcase Agri Expo with a difference

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 15 (MExN): The 3rd North-East Agri Expo 2012, a mega show organized by the Government of Nagaland supported by Ministry of Agriculture & Co-operation, DoNER/NEC will be held from November 15-17 on the theme, “progressive agriculture” at Agri Expo Site, 4th Mile, Dimapur, Nagaland. 

For the first time, the NER Agri Expo will be organized culminating with the State Government’s yearlong celebration of Youth Expo cum Tribal Fest 2012 bringing more attractive events for visitors. 

With participation from all eight NE states along with national and international participants from both private and public sectors, the Agri Expo 2012 promises to be different from the previous events, informs a press note issued by 3rd NER Agri Expo Office.

Boosted by the successes of previous expos, the Government of Nagaland has started all preparations on war-footing to provide an impressive show, the press note added.

According to the organizers, the objective of the Expo is to create an excellent platform for public and private sectors, buyers and sellers, exhibitors and investors and supporting institutes to forge linkage in line with the theme ‘progressive agriculture’ by showcasing agriculture & allied products thereby promoting trade and investment opportunities for the NE states. 

According to the press note, one of the most awaited events of the expo is the national seminar on “Progressive Agriculture.” The focus of this seminar will be on the climate resilient agriculture, success stories on agriculture technologies, ITKs (Indigenous Technological Knowledge system) and farmers’ variety including value chain and market linkages.

A parallel session on “Farmers -Scientists Interaction” will also be held focusing on issues such as resilient agriculture in the context of climate change, horticulture for nutritional and income security, and animal husbandry for economic upliftment of farmers.

Besides the above, the 3rd NER Agri Expo has a number of special features including a day long video show on latest technologies in agriculture, lead papers to be presented by nationally/internationally acclaimed experts, presentation by innovative farmers/students of NER and poster presentation on success stories in agricultural technologies & ITKs.  Facility for on the spot registration of farmers’ variety by PPV&FR (Protection of Plant varieties & Farmers’ Rights) will be provided during the expo.
