State Vigilance Commissioner appointment should not be blown out of proportion: NDPP

Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today responded to the various statements and allegations made by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) through its spokesperson and press bureau regarding the recent appointment of State Vigilance Commissioner, filing of FIR against its president, and the recently concluded bye-elections to the Lok Sabha seat.

A statement from NDPP Media & Communication Committee maintained that the appointment of Mayang Lima as the State Vigilance Commissioner “should not be blown out of proportion to gain cheap political mileage.” The appointment, it maintained, was in conformation with all prescribed rules on the appointment of the State Vigilance Commissioner.

“Further, he was selected keeping in mind his unblemished track record and integrity as a legal luminary and a former Principal District & Sessions Judge and is believed to be the best suited person for the post of State Vigilance Commissioner,” NDPP added.

It further stated that the NPF spokesperson's “attempts to cast aspersions” upon Mayang Lima by trying to implicate his name in the ongoing CBI inquiry into the construction of the new High Court building at Meriema is “unfounded and unbecoming of a person who himself is from the legal profession.”

“Such wild allegation against a person of outstanding track record without any evidence to substantiate upon is not only preposterous and uncalled for but can also invite legal action,” it cautioned.

With regard to NPF accusing the NDPP of “playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” NDPP reiterated that the party had never filed FIR against the NPF president on May 22 or any other date either by Prasielie Pienyu, the election agent of the PDA candidate in the Lok Sabha bye-poll or by any other member of the NDPP as alleged by NPF party.

Pienyu had in his capacity as the election agent filed a complaint to the Election Commission of India on May 19 against Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, the president of NPF, it reminded. “He had filed the complaint by virtue of being the election agent and not in his personal capacity. Here, the main issue is not about an FIR being filed or about an individual, but it is about a so-called senior most leader - who was being projected as a statesman by his party - making provocative speeches on the grounds of religion to incite communal disharmony.”

Terming the NPF president’s speech “not only shocking but unlawful, unbecoming and below the stature of a senior, responsible leader,” NDPP told its rival party to “first get its facts correct from the concerned authorities before making baseless allegations just to divert the attention of the public from the ongoing investigations over the actions of its president.”
