‘Status of HIV/AIDS in Kiphire alarming’

Dimapur, December 1 (MExN): DAPCU Kiphire today organised the International world AIDS day under the theme ‘Right to Health’ at Hopongkyu Memorial hall with civil societies, well-wishers, KpNP+ and medical fraternity. Speaking at the program as guest speaker, Dr Sunup, Medical Officer, DHK said respect and medical facility is the right of everyone and everyone deserve it. He also added that no one should be discriminated because of sickness or diseases.  

Sunup also appealed to the HIV+ve community to encourage friends to avail medical facility which is available in the hospital. Expressing concern at the alarming rate of HIV/AIDS in the district, Sunup also urged the stalk holders to take the message foreword by educating the citizens on HIV/AIDS  

Giving the report of the district scenario on HIV/AIDS, K. Supanmong, Programme Assistant (DAPCU) said, the status of HIV/AIDS in the district is alarming and he also disclosed that over the past one year there were 52 cases of HIV/AIDS detected in the district. From this, 28 of them are in the age group of 26-35, 19 under the age group of 11-25, 4 under the age group of 0-10, another 4 under the age group of 36-50 and 2 under age group of 51 and above. Thsointhe, president KpNP+ while speaking on the significance of the day appealed the gathering to spread the awareness of HIV/AIDS to the family and loved ones as the district scenario on HIV/AIDS is in an alarming state.
