
Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): Network of Mokokchung District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NMP+) in collaboration with Dimapur Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (DNP+) conducted a sensitization programme on HIV/AIDS in Operation Salvage Rehabilitation Centre Heningkunglwa under Peren District on September 28.
A press release received here stated that the programme was sponsored by Bharti Infratel Limited. Toshiyanger Sangpi, President NMP+ shared on ‘stigma and discrimination’ where he stated that PLHA experience shame by directing negative response and reaction of other to themselves leading to depression and withdrawal. He also stated that “stigma and discrimination crushes PLHA visibility; thereby encourages spread of further infection and HIV/AIDS is not a sin. It is just one among many tests, God uses to test our faith and love for fellow human being. HIV is a virus that can survive only in human body but though there is no cure till date, yet we have a treatment and it can be manage by living a positive life. Yet still PLHIV die early not because of HIV and AIDS but due to stigma and discrimination.”
Basic on HIV/AIDS and treatment topic was shared by Yanger Aier, MIS Officer, DNP+. He highlighted the root cause of HIV and explained the difference between HIV and AIDS and explained in detail the treatment facilities available in the district. He also highlighted on scenario of HIV/AIDS in Nagaland and Dimapur.
It may be noted that Operation Salvage is a rehabilitation centre run by NSCN (I-M) in changing the life of those who are addicted to Drugs, alcohol etc. Those attending the programme were from Bharti Infratel Ltd, Gurgoan and Assam. Around 60 participants attended the programme.
