
Zunheboto, November 7 (MExN): The Lazami Students Union (LSU) held an auspicious stone pulling ceremony to mark its platinum jubilee celebration on November 6.
All the residents of the village, both young and old took part in the ceremony.
L Saluvi Futhena Head GB of Lazami spoke on the significance of the tradition and said that stone pulling is an age-old tradition practiced by the forefathers since time immemorial and is practiced till now but added that things have changed a lot with the arrival of Christianity.
Pulling the stone is not an ordinary task and all customs and traditions are followed in the ceremony. “Women folk do participate in the ceremony by carrying rice beer and offering the drinks for the men folk but it is a taboo for women to touch the stone or even the rope used for pulling the stone,” he said.
Lazami students Union President, Khuvishe Swu thanked the pioneers for their dedication and hard works. More than 3000 students from Lazami are celebrating the occasion along with the whole village, the President informed in a press release on Sunday.
Lazami students Union 75 Platinum Jubilee member, Convenor Souvenir Committee and President Lazami Welfare Kohima Ngukato Tsuipu said the Union is celebrating its 75 years under the theme ‘75th Strides and Beyond’ with the main event scheduled to take place in the last week of December 2021.
Huqheto Swu, Convenor Programme Committee chaired the programme, Convenor, Planning Board Inakhe delivered the vote of thanks while Tuyi Kappo Pastor LKBC invoked the programme and Rev Tuyi Futhena pronounced the benediction.
The programme was followed by community feast.
