Storm creates havoc to power supply

Dimapur electrical sub-division II bears the brunt of Sunday’s storm

DIMAPUR, MAY 13 (MExN): Dimapur Electrical Sub-Division II bore the brunt of the torrential storm which lashed the town on May 12. “Five out of six 11 Kv feeders (power lines) emanating from Burma Camp sub-station were damaged during the storm,” said a Power Department official on Monday. As a result power supply to almost all locations within Sub-Division II was affected. Work was proceeding on Monday to restore the damaged lines.

Burma Camp and Metha 20 MVA sub-stations are the two centres supplying power to the town with the railway track, cutting through the town, acting as the margin demarcating the jurisdiction of the two, it was added. Areas falling west of the railway station and beyond, which are fed from Burma Camp sub-station, are said to fall within Sub-Division II.

Airport feeder, Purana Bazaar feeder, Nagarjan back-feeder, Veterinary feeder, Darogajan feeder (all 11 Kv lines) were the lines severely affected, some by falling trees. While requesting consumers to bear with the inconvenience, the official said that repair work is continuing on a war footing to restore supply at the earliest. Feeders originating from Metha sub-station were also damaged but workers were able to repair it by Sunday night, it was further added.
