Story of a Government making mockery of its governance

Nagaland Govt. is making a mockery of its governance and the general public is deep asleep to awake to the reality of the situation.  As cited in the daily news papers, it is very disheartening to learn that even in the Govt. Set up, parallel office is set up, citing the instances of The office of the CEO, DMC, where the relieved officer does not hand over the chair in spite of repeated orders to the extent of the Chief Secretary and the high court issuing similar orders. This is a situation to be thoroughly discussed and pondered upon, what makes the post of CEO, DMC so much run after by the present incumbent. This clearly shows that the bureaucrats are really after some kind of personal interest or loop holes readily available to generate income for themselves but for sure not in discharging their duties because the first and most important duty of a govt. servant in discharging their duty is to abide by the Govt. Orders, hence, in this case nothing is left to be explained. With this kind of mind set in our present society what kind of growth or development in any sector can be expected?

Another example of our present Govt. making a mockery of itself is issuing not less than four or five notifications in less than 3 months time and not being able to put into effect, that is the Nagaland Govt. retirement act. In spite of the notifications being amended and rectified time and again may there is still rectifications to be made because it is learnt that an SDO in electricity department is continuing to make use of all the Govt. Machineries, coolly sitting in the office chair signing off all the papers and enjoying all the benefits of the Govt. although his retirement release order was to be effected from 31 st July 2011 (Nagaland Gazette). This shows that the Govt. notifications and orders have no effect on those who have strong political inclinations. Another example of the irregularities in the functioning of the Govt. system is allotting a Govt. vehicle to a sub-ordinate (The only J.E in the whole department to be attached with a vehicle) where as his superior are denied, incidentally this is also learnt to be from Electricity department. The SDO and J.E,s under electricity department on contract employees were supposed to be removed and post were to be advertised but that has never happened and those contract J.E’s are still attending their offices at ease. This is another Instance of Govt. bluffing the public at will.

No wonder why? Nagaland is faced with so much of power crisis, always reeling under the darkness faced with black outs time and again. We have no options but to depend on the nature (rain and wind) to cool off in this sweltering summer heat. Come summer and rain made the electricity line faulty, come spring and the winds make the electricity line break to pieces, come winter and there is no water in the dam to generate power, come assembly session and the power minister always finds excuse to save his area workers employed on contract basis and working overtime (after retirement) but finds no funds to sustain his department and his engineers are always complaining of fund shortage to maintain or buy new transformers or wire etc. whereas in the paper Nagaland shows 100 % electrified which takes Nagaland ahead of many Indian states but in reality, the Nagas know where we are and the Indians do not know because they don’t live here.

So the Indians are not coming to ask or question anyone but it’s we who’s got to ask or question or act. We should start acting to find out the irregularities and loop hole in the form of favoritism, too much political interferences in highly technical departments. It’s high time we the Nagas should realize and not just sit for a wait and watch policy of what will happen, the educated unemployed engineers, you should be proactive to voice out your right. The new generation depends on you, the society at this juncture needs qualified and energetic (physically and mentally) talents and not white horses (Politically appointed) or old horses (Retired and working by self style method or in the name of honarium).
