Chümoukedima, March 18 (MExN): Tetso College kicked off its first ‘Strive for Excellence Youth Festival’ with Dr Thokchom Radheshyam, President, North East Sports Association and MLA, Government of Manipur as the special guest on March 18.

Addressing the Tetso College community, Dr Radheshyam maintained that competition is important but collaboration is most important when it comes to working together. By effective collaboration, the teams will be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the members and should try to bridge this divide by supporting the weaker ones and vice versa, he stated. He also mentioned that in order for someone to grow it is better to compete with oneself rather than with others. But it is imperative to learn to collaborate with other people at the same time, he added.

He encouraged the students to laugh and be merry as it is only for a short while that we will be young and energetic. He quoted “failure is the highway to success,” and so the students must not be afraid to make mistakes to learn.

Dr Radheshyam highlighted the importance of winning medals but more important than that is winning the hearts of the people through discipline, conduct and teamwork/collaboration. Emphasizing on the importance of educating all three spheres of human life - Body, Mind and Soul through games and sports, Dr Radheshyam encouraged the students to become happy and successful citizens and to one day become ambassadors of Nagaland.

The ceremony was chaired by Mutuzo Vero, General Secretary, Tetso Student Council and the oath-taking was administered by Temsu Longkumer, Coordinator, Tetso Olympic Committee. Earlier, Dr Hewasa L Khing, Principal, Tetso College gave the welcome address while Nungsangtemjen, BA 6th Semester presented a special song.
