Medziphema, October 4 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on ‘nursery management of fruits and flowers’ from September 27 to October 2, in association with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad.

Director SAMETI  & Principal IETC, Medziphema stated in a press release that the training covered topics on Nursery infrastructure, Good nursery management, Propagation by cutting and budding methods, Propagation of citrus, passion fruit, litchi, cashew nut, Introduction to flower nursery, Classification of nursery, Layout and physical resources of nursery, Propagation by grafting and air layering. Hand-on practical sessions on semi-hard wood cutting, Tbudding, wedge grafting and air layering were conducted at Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema.

The programme was coordinated by Tiajungla Longchar, Deputy Project Director SAMETI while resources persons for the training program were AK Singh, Horticulture Specialist, Mhasizotuo, Sr Technical Assistant and Ms. Junshi, JRF from Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema.

Certificates and training kits comprising of lime saplings and technical folders were distributed to the participants at the end of the training program. A total of 15 rural youths were trained.
