STSU accuses Shamator MO of ‘abstaining from duty’

DIMAPUR, MAY 7 (MExN): The Shamator Town Students Union (STSU) today informed that the lone Medical Officer (MO) posted at Community Health Centre (CHC) Shamator was “willfully abstaining from his duty since November last year without any proper leave or alternate arrangement till date.”

A press note from the STSU said that this was happening at a time when a “number of patients who were running for their health problems seeking Doctor’s intervention.” The union informed that it informed the matter to the CMO Tuensang “who had paid his physical visit last year at CHC Shamator to take stock of the situation.”

“However, despite our earnest appeal, the patients were left unattended medically and deprived of even their basic right in availing medical services owing to the prolonged unauthorized absence of the lone MO,” the STSU said. It added that consequently, organizations like the Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) had recently “exposed the poor state of health Centre through print media on 23rd April 2018 after their physical verification.”

It lamented that despite bringing out the facts with figures to the notice of the department and all the concerned stakeholders, neither the Health and Family Department took cognizance of the genuine matter nor the MO paid heed to the call of the STPF “for the reason best known to the department and the concerned MO till date.”

Therefore, in view of the “health care deprivation by the MO,” the STSU urged the concerned MO to report to his posting place within a period of two weeks from the date of publishing this open letter.

Failing which, the STSU in collaboration with STPF shall seek higher legal action from the appropriate authority and “expose every activity of the MO including the immediate cause that led to his departure on whatsoever reason,” the union cautioned.
