Student body slams PWD over NH 39 condition

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has slamed the Manipur PWD over the condition of NH 39. Stating that the NH-39 continues to rot and remain in deplorable condition, the recent visit of PWD/Works Minister to Maram and suggesting a ‘diversion of the NH-39 remains a doubtful initiative’.
Stating by records, SDSA for many years had relentlessly struggled and cried for improvement of the main lifeline NH-39 with numerous histories of memorandums, MoUs, agitations etc. Surprisingly, even the recent fund sanctions and works executed around Senapati to Mao-gate manifest the ‘extreme lack of sincerity and seriousness’ of the concerned PWD Minister, Principal Secretary (Works), Executive Engineer (Div-1) and contractors, lamented the president of SDSA A. Pfokrehrii K in a press note.
The note stated that as per the recent and repeated remark of the PWD Minister in regard to poor maintenance of NH-39 by BRO has nothing to prove as the State PWD has miserably failed to live up with people’s expectations. With no stationed engineers, staff, labourers, machinery on the NH-39 since the take-over of from the BRO, the tall claims of the EE, PWD Division-1 (NH-39) of sincerity is big ‘mockery and insult to Senapati District’. With so many financial irregularities, unaccounted sanctions, deserted machinery, poor quality and worse profit oriented Engineers and contractors, the idea of Diverting or realignment of NH-39 will not improve the main lifeline of the State but create more trust deficit between the people and the State government.
“… during the recent visit of the PWD Minister and his team, some men in folded jeans and colorful shirts were seen working with spades around some hit-hard areas of the NH-39. Such mere dumping of stones and mud during the visit by concerned contractors in “Worker’s dressing” has nothing to balm the situation but a mere public stunt to hoodwink the General Public,” it stated in the note.
The SDSA in the note stated that the endeavor to improve the main lifeline of the State will not concede to mere proposals and paper works, but continues to demand for the realistic standard National Highway. Here, the SDSA demand the concerned EE (NH-39) his officials and Contractors to immediately resume works along the NH-39 failing which, it will not fail to react effectively against them.
