KOHIMA (MExN): The Angami Students Union (ASU) started its agitation today at the office of BSNL located opposite the Post office, Kohima owing to the failure of the BSNL authority to comply with their demands.

Earlier, the ASU had submitted an ultimatum on December 13 to the Deputy General Manager, BSNL in the form of a 3-point demand, to be met on or before the December 17, failing which the ASU had stated that they would be forced to take further course of action for which they would not be held accountable for.

The following demands made: to immediately improve  on the network system, adequate compensation on the cell-one BSNL Kohima subscriber against the month of November and December’05 and also an explanation as to why the Prepaid services was in such a state that even with subscribers filling the cash card, after one or two messages or calls the balance goes back to zero and not withstanding the constant failure delivery  of messages, blockage of the sim card without any reason and other such network problems.

Sedeneikho Shosahie, Vice President ASU, talking to The Morung Express, said that with the failure to comply with theirs demands and the expire date of the memorandum over, some ASU representatives had gone up to the BSNL head office today around 9 AM to meet the officials but it took them by surprise to realize that no officials were present except for an SDO.

He maintained that they had waited till around 12 pm but still no other officials turned up and questioned as to how the authorities are managing the office if this was the case. “How can they manage the office with officials such as this and our problems not persist?”

He further stated that this being the case, 100 angry volunteers demonstrated an agitation by gathering around the BSNL office, carrying weapons such as spears, machetes, axe etc but the situation was brought under control by a few office bearers who were present. Around 20 staff members who were present were chased out of the office and the doors, windows and every exit closed by the volunteers.

The vice president warned that if any attempt is made to open any of the exits before the fulfillment of the said demands, it would only invite further course of action which would be much stronger.
