Dimapur, May 12 (MExN): A group of BSW, MSW and Psychology students from various institutions from Meghalaya and Nagaland held a de-briefing session with the management of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre on their practical exposure programmes at the Centre at CCT Conference Hall, Walford Road, Dimapur on May 12. The practical study programme ranges from 75 to 10 days.
Bijata, Administrative Associate, BYWCD in a press release stated that all together 46 students had undergone the practical study programme representing the following Institution viz., Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong, Harding Theological College, Tura, Meghalaya, St. Joseph University, Sovima, Witter Theological College, Vankhosung, Wokha and North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur.
Some of the students also had the opportunity to visit the rural Bhandari area of Hayiyan, Liphi and Ruchanyan villages, as part of the learning processes and also fostering cross cultural relationship amongst the people.
Sharing their experience, one of the interns said, “Deep down in my mind, I was always on the impression that there are no longer chemical dependency problem in our society, until I got the opportunity to undergo a practical exposure programme at Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre.” However, the intern lamented that “the scourge of the twin problem of drug addiction and HIV/AIDS is real and is within our own kitchen. It is a matter of grave concerns, yet most of us have been so complacent all these years.”
“Walking in the rain for 8-10 kms in a day in the humid jungle tract to in a strange land yet amongst the most cheerful and hospitable people of Ruchanyan village from Hayiyan village was a lifetime experience, sweet memories to cherish for the rest of our lives,” shared some of the students from HTC, Tura, Meghalaya.
The Executive Director, BYWC WC Humtsoe exhorted to the students to be diligent in their studies and use the lessons learned to the best of their abilities, encouraging them to be creative, self confident and become a constructive citizens thus making our region more lovable place to lives in. Certificate of completion of the internship were distributed by the Assistant Director BYWC, Enoch Kithan, Publicity Wing, BYWCD.
