Students sensitized on HIV/AIDS

Dimapur, Sept 24 (MExN): An awareness programme on HIV/AIDS through Inter-School Literary Competition was organized by IMC members at its complex. The event was jointly financed by World Vision India, Dimapur and Dimapur District AIDS Control Society today. Three categories of competition were held for the students based on the issue of HIV/AIDS, namely group song, skit and extempore speech. Altogether nine schools participated in the competition. The resource persons were Ella Mary, Programme Officer, Prodigals Home, Moa Imsong, Counselor Educator, Kohima and Chiten, Assistant Coordinator of NDO, NBBC. 

Resource person Ella Mary interacted with the youngsters on the physical effects of a person with HIV/AIDS and the basic information relating to cause, spread and the immunization of the disease. She also stressed on the importance of communication and a responsible behavior in helping to fight and prevent the disease. While addressing the students, the Assistant Coordinator of NDO, Chiten deliberated on overcoming peer pressure and its preventive measures. He also talked on the significance of relationships like friendship which can help overcome worries and encourage one another. “A good friend will never encourage you to get into bad habits and ways of life”, said Chiten. Moa Imsong, the third resource person, talked on the psychological and spiritual affects of a person infected with HIV/AIDS.  

Earlier, the introduction and welcome address was given by Asangla Imchen, Coordinator of IMC. A special song was presented by Aren and Moa of Abiogenesis. 

The highlights of the program were the skits presented by different schools.
