Students urged to be part of solution

“The present scenario is in high need of young people from all walks of lives to be part of the solution rather then being part of the problem. It needs to pursue with an intention of building a society on healthy perspective and not become a law breaker in the society,” stated Dr. Lucy Zehol, Associate Professor, department of Anthropology, NEHU Shillong.

She was addressing the 43rd Fresher’s Social cum 2012 Annual Session of the Chakhesang Students’ Union Shillong (CSUS) as the chief guest held yesterday (September 5) at Naga Community Hall, Nongrim Hill’s Shillong.

She said that ‘you might be socially, culturally and spiritual poor yet you are talented, intelligent and capable of doing things with high potential’ and added that one has to be equipped with positive mentality and good skill to combat with the evil instinct prevailing in the society.

Stressing on the importance of ‘youth life’ Zehol maintained that ‘a powerful input exists in the lives of the youth and it contains both positive and negative aspects.’ She said that the present society is in such a juncture needing to face lots of challenges and thus she urged upon the students to be prepared to face any eventualities and be part of the champion.

The day which coincides with the National Teachers Day, the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) President Thupukutho Lohe, addressing the occasion as the guest speaker conveyed special wishes to the entire teachers under the jurisdiction of the Union.  Urging upon the students’ gathered to preserve cultural and tribal identity with utmost care, he said, “Chakhesangs were known for its honesty, integrity and simplicity.” Lohe appealed to the students to maintained cordial relationship with others, cutting across the line of ‘ism’ adding that it was the need of the hour.

Highlighting the various activities undertaken by CSU, Lohe disclosed, the Union in its 1st Union Assembly reaffirmed its earlier resolution to stand firm on ‘No Space for Bogus Teachers’ and added that the Union is pursuing the same with its other counterpart unions for fruitful implementation.

Making a humble request to the CSUS to be part of the next CSU U/A, he said that CSU is looking forward to the participation of organizations like CSUS in the tribal students’ apex decision making platform.

CSUS President, Chekhrolo Koza in his presidential address urged upon the students to cultivate the spirit of quality education and be at par with the rest of the competitive world. Altogether 50 freshers and around 150 students from different institution attended the day long programme.
