‘The trick is in setting time’
Marina Yashmin-HSSLC topper (Commerce stream) Daughter of a watch mechanic, Marina Yashmin who topped the 2018 HSSLC in Commerce stream with 97.20 % (486 marks) knows exactly how to set time for studies. The trick is in time. It is therefore a daily ritual for the HSSLC topper to prioritize time for different subjects. According to Yashmin, who is a student of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, she breaks her study routine by allotting two hours in the morning and three at night. Putting extra time and effort for one’s favourite subjects surely pays dividend as Yashmin secured the highest marks in Entrepreneurship (98 marks) and Fundamentals of Business Mathematics (100 marks) - two of her pet subjects. Besides time, Yashmin attributes her success for being a student of one of the best educational institutions in the state. “In Pranab Vidyapith, students are made to cover the daily lessons prior to any exam which in turn eases the preparation load and there is time for rounds of revisions,” she explains. Yashmin, who is from Assam have embraced Nagaland as her home and wish to pursue her higher studies in the state itself.

‘God before everything else’
Benrithung L Jungio-HSSLC topper (Arts Stream)
Benrithung L Jungio, a student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha who topped the HSSLC examinations 2018 in the Arts stream with 91.40% (458 marks) says he puts God before everything else. “Prayer is basic,” he says. The motivation after a prayer has allowed him to study his lessons on a daily basis. Regularly, he sits for 4-5 hours on his study table and during exam days, his study hour extends to 6-7 hours. A resident of Air field Colony, Wokha, the toppers says he loves action movies, reading novels and staying indoors during his leisure time. Adding that he maintains a very low profile in his locality, his success came as a shock to many people in his locality. For him, he silently limited his expectation to an 8th or 9th position but “patience and perseverance” which he attaches to his life and faith in God has been the truest reward. “Being the 4th among his five siblings,” he says has always been another challenge. “All of them excelled in their field because of their sheer hardwork. I also wanted to be like them,” he adds. “For now, I want to pursue my further studies outside Nagaland to get exposure and experience the outside world and study theology then dedicate my life to evangelism and serve God,” he added.
