
Aghunato, April 11 (MExN): The inauguration of Sub-Treasury office in Aghunato Town was held on April 10 with MLA & Advisor F&CS, Legal Metrology and NSDMA, Pukhayi Sumi as the chief guest.
A DIPR report informed that Pukhayi in his speech said, “Locals have suffered for 26 long years because of shifting of Aghunato treasury to Zunheboto.” Stating that many government servants are not sincere in their duties, he called upon all to be dedicated. He also spoke on the developmental activities to be pursued and further informed that up-gradation of SDPO and SDO Electrical Department posts are in the pipeline.
EAC Aghunato, Saratho Katiry, who chaired the programme, said that setting up the Sub-Treasury office will bring benefit to 500 plus pensioners and government servants, and affect more than 17 government offices in Aghunato sub-division. He acknowledged MLA & Advisor, Pukhayi for giving unceasing effort and also thanked the leaders and the public who contributed towards reinstatement of the office.
Samuel, Sr. AA Treasury department Aghunato said the Sub-Treasury office, Aghunato earlier functioned as Non-Banking Treasury, where all the cash business was conducted by SBI Zunheboto. Later, the office was relocated to Zunheboto following the 'unfortunate incident' that happened in the year 1992 when the vehicle transporting cash was ambushed allegedly by one of the Naga political groups while on the way between Zunheboto-Aghunato killing at least three police personnel and injuring several people, and the cash looted. In course of more than two decades, government servants and Aghunato public suffered tremendous hardship, he stated.
Kashito Yepthomi, GB Ghuvishe village requested installation of more ATM booths in Aghunato Town for convenience of transaction. He also requested the GBs and elders of Aghunato to safeguard the assets well. Lauding MLA & Advisor Pukhayi for reinstating the treasury office, he said, “It is a Red Letter day for Aghunato.”
