Subsidy for transportation of goods through Kisan Rail

Maligaon, August 27 (MExN): In order to provide benefit to parcel customers including farmers and small businessmen, the Indian railways have taken a series of measures which include- grant of subsidy for transportation through Kisan Rail trains, discount in advance bulk booking of parcel space etc.

This was informed in a press release issued by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) CPRO Guneet Kaur on Friday.

The CPRO stated that Kisan Rail train service enables farmers to utilize the vast railway network to gain access to distant, bigger and more lucrative markets at comparatively cheaper rate.

50 percent subsidy is given in freight rate for transportation of fruits and vegetables under ‘Operation Greens – TOP to Total’ scheme, the release stated.

To boost parcel earnings, several trains such as Alipurduar junction – Delhi express special, Agartala - Anand Vihar Terminal Tejas express special etc. have already been opened for leasing of round trip Parcel Van, it added.

In order to promote advance booking in larger quantities, a discount scheme is being provided by Railways to transporter that decides to book bulk parcel space in advance. The discount is applicable if the space being booked (in a single trip) is more than the leased parcel space under the highest lease rates. Details of the quantum of discount were also provided.
