KIPHIRE, JANUARY 16 (MExN): The 2nd day of the Tsungkamnyo cum Mini Hornbill Festival was celebrated on January 16 at Yimkhiung Heritage, Pungro, Kiphire. KT Sukhalu, Advisor for Food & Civil Supply and Legal Metrology, attended as the special guest. The event was hosted by S. Kiusumew, Advisor of Home Guard & Civil Defence, Fire & Emergency Services.

In his address, Sukhalu emphasized the festival as a time to celebrate community and cultural heritage. He noted that the Tsüngkamnyo festival serves as an apt occasion to reflect on the essence of community, highlighting the Naga people’s long history of coexistence and urging the continuation of this spirit of unity. “We must look to the future with an eye toward prosperity and progress,” Sukhalu stated, stressing that the Naga community must be the architect of its own destiny.

Sukhalu further reflected on the importance of preserving traditions, stating that culture is not just about festivals, traditional attire, and customs, but is deeply rooted in the village ethos, characterized by shared experiences, community, and generosity. He called for a united Naga community and cautioned against false divisions.

He also stressed the importance of education in the fast-changing world. Sukhalu noted that technical skills are now essential for success, particularly in the highly competitive job market. He encouraged the youth to work with determination and advised parents to instill integrity and discipline in their children to ensure their success in life.

Addressing the growing issue of misinformation, Sukhalu warned about the dangers posed by fake news, especially with the rise of social media. He urged the community to be discerning and not to be swayed by false information, asserting that a solid educational foundation would empower the people to distinguish between real and fake news. “We cannot be successful if we are easily misled,” he said, stressing the need for intellectual and spiritual strength to lead the community into the future.

The celebration featured a welcome address by Laji Luyanba, General Secretary of YTC, and a brief speech by N.Y Choba chang, President of CKS, as the Tribal Guest. Special cultural performances were presented by Sangphur village and Tsuyola, with additional cultural items by various troupes. The program was chaired by Rebecca Khiuphur and Runshito Yimkhiung.
