Sumi father forgives; matter ‘settled amicably’

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 2 (MExN):  Through the initiation of the Kohima Sümi Hoho, the father of the deceased, Mr. Kanito of Kilitomi Village has forgiven the ‘defaulters’ involved in the killing of his son Kivika on August 31, 2012. According to a joint press note issued by the Kohima Sumi Hoho and the Kohima Village Council, the father made “his decision clear over phone to the Kohima Sümi Hoho, that he forgives the defaulters without any reservation in the name of the Almighty”.

This was among one of the resolution adopted during an emergency meeting between Kohima Village Council, Kewhimiapfü Mechu Krotho, Kohima Sümi Hoho, Kohima Sümi Officers’ Union and Kohima Sümi Totimi Hoho today the 3rd September 2012. The other decisions taken and resolved was that the Kohima Village Council expressed its gratefulness to the father of the deceased, Mr. Kanito and all concerned in bringing the present crisis to an amicable settlement and thereby made it known to all that Sümis living within its jurisdiction that they have nothing to fear. “The protection of the Sümis is assured to the best of their ability”, the joint statement said.

It further made known to all concerned that, having settled the matter amicably between the Kohima Village Council, the Kohima Sümi Hoho and the father of the deceased Mr. Kanito of Kilitomi Village further escalation of tension and confrontation between the Sümis and Angamis should be avoided and stopped forthwith. The joint press note was issued and signed by Vilhouzhalie, Chairman Kohima Village Council and Edward K. Zhimomi, President of Kohima Sumi Hoho. 

Meanwhile a joint meeting of the Sumi Hoho and the Angami Public Organisation (APO) was held today (2nd Sept.2012) at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, under the aegis of Naga Hoho. Subsequently, a threadbare and honest deliberation was held in the meeting and it was decided to release a joint statement for public consumption and for the interest of fraternity and peace amongst all concerned. 

According to the joint statement issued by L. K Achumi, Co-opted President Sumi Hoho, Vipopal Kintso General Secretary APO and P. Chuba Ozukum, General Secretary Naga Hoho the meeting totally denounced all forms of violence and condemned the perpetrators who had attempted to take laws into their own hands. It has resolved to give full support for the law of the land to take its own course of action.

It was also resolved that the recent unfortunate incidents are by no means communal or tribal issue and therefore it took serious note of “any vested interest people trying to provoke or ignite the situation”. “It shall leave no stone unturned to take action against such element if found to be lurking”.

The meeting further appealed to all concerned organisations as well as individuals to let reason prevail and not imposed any form of harassment/unwarranted activities on the Nationals Highways. Towards this, the APO and Sumi Hoho stated that it shall extent its fullest co-operation to the state machinery for maintaining peace and tranquillity. 

Keeping this in mind the meeting decided that it shall not allow SKK (All Sumi Students’ Union) to impose Economic Blockade on National Highway 29 as proposed by it.

Further it observed that the usage of MMS, Face book and SMS have attributed towards creating confusion and played havoc among the people in provoking the situation. Therefore, the meeting felt that the state government must take befitting steps to put such facilities under reasonable control for the time being.
