
Appeal to stop inflammatory media publications on Aug 31, Sept 1 issue
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 15 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho today held a meeting at Dimapur with is frontal organizations and resolved on several issues related to the August 31 and September 1, 2012 incidents at Kohima and Dimapur respectively. According to a press note issued by Hovishe Arkha President Sumi Hoho, Nagaland, the meeting condoled the unfortunate death of Kivika Sumi and appealed to the State Government for ex-Gratia payment for the deceased. The meeting also reiterated that it is not a communal issue between Sumis and Angamis and as settled by the Kohima Village Council and Kohima Sumi Hoho the matter should be set at rest.
The meeting deliberated at length on the subsequent trouble that erupted at Dimapur/Chumukedima on September 1, leading to the damage of properties, vehicles and loss of life of Late Kisheto Achumi. The meeting appreciated the State Government in constituting a three member committee to find out the causes and circumstances leading to the September 1, incident but took strong exception to the “leaving out of the inquiry by bullet leading to the death of Kisheto Achumi”.
The Sumi Hoho representing all the Frontal Organisations appealed to the State Government to expeditiously inquire into the circumstances leading to the death of Late Kisheto Achumi and the person responsible for causing the said death.
The Sumi Hoho was also of the strong opinion that “peace and tranquility must be promoted and preserved by all Naga brothers and sisters and may consider all media publications as matter of the past and requests all to stop inflammatory media publications on the issue”.
The meeting also resolved to appeal to all right thinking Nagas to be vigilant about misuse of information technology and to check spreading of false propaganda inciting communal disharmony and appealed to the State Government to take immediate steps to deal with the cyber-crime and put in place mechanisms to block out messages/postings spreading communal disharmony.
While appreciating the statement of the Western Sumi Youth Front taking responsibility of the vandalism and compensation for the damages and the implication as to who would take responsibility for the death of Kivika and Kisheto, the Sumi Hoho appealed to the Western Sumi Youth Front to reconsider the statement and urged the State Government to take up the matter appropriately.
In the greater interest of the Society, the Sumi Hoho reiterated the appeal to the Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) to reconsider the proposed economic blockade, which had been postponed by the SKK on appeal by the Sumi leaders. The meeting stressed on the need to restrain all press releases on this issue.
Saturday’s meeting convened by the Sumi Hoho saw participation of the Western Sumi Hoho, Western Sumi Youth Front, Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK), Sumi Officers Union, Nagaland, Sumi Officers Union, Dimapur, Sumi Hoho (Kohima Unit), Sumi Council Dimapur, Sumi Officers Union Kohima and Western Sumi Students Union.
