Sumi Students Conference underway at Medziphema

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 20 (MExN): The Sumi Students' Union, Medziphema Town began its two-day General Conference from December 20 under the theme "Be an asset for tomorrow" in the premises of Sumi Baptist Church, Medziphema.

Speaking to the congregation, MLA Zhaleo Rio expressed optimism on the mixed gathering as it has become vital that the young and old alike shoulder responsibilities together, even to the extent of interchanging roles in the society today.

While lamenting on the political turmoil of the state at present, he confessed that it was the people who, with faith, elected 60 of them as their respective MLAs from different constituencies but that they had failed to unitedly execute their duties to the fullest because of the temporary, impending fiasco. He apologised to the people and requested everyone to patiently bear the uncertain political scenario which "will perhaps be over very soon."

On education, Rio stressed that it is a requisite in today's world but added that one has to become something productive and not otherwise. "It is near impossible to secure good, government jobs now and therefore, students must choose their own area of interest in studies with proper guidance and wisdom in order to become self-sustainable or financially independent from one's occupation in future", he advised, and further noted that parents too should be more liberal in allowing children pick their choice of studies, etc. through motivation and dedication.

The inaugural function was chaired by Ngukato Kinimi, Ex-president, SSUMT, while Kakheto Aye, Pastor, SBCMT, invoked God's blessings and Tokihe Chishi, Chairman, Sumi Council, Medziphema Town, delivered the greetings message. After a short address by the President, SSUMT, the gathering was enthralled by a cultural show and a special song rendered by Katoshe Kiba. The program concluded with words of acknowledgement by I. Vihoto Swu, PS to Director, followed by mass benediction.
