Issues strict directives on vending, hygiene
Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): The Street Vendors Association Nagaland (SVAN) has issued a directive asking all street vendors and hawkers in the state to strictly comply with municipal laws, legal mandates, and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations, warning that defaulters will face strict disciplinary action.
The SVAN in a statement said Sunday closure will remain strictly in force for street vendors until 12:00 noon, with no vending operations permitted before that time to maintain sanctity during morning church hours.
It said no vendor or hawker shall encroach upon public footpaths at any time, in compliance with the Supreme Court order on the right to walk on a demarcated footpath, a Fundamental Right under Article 19(1)(d). Footpaths must remain completely clear for pedestrian well-being, it added.
It further directed all street food vendors to completely abstain from using inked, printed, or written papers to wrap, serve, or pack food items due to chemical hazards.
All food handlers must wear proper hygienic gear, including aprons, gloves, and hairnets, to ensure clean and safe food service, the association said.
SVAN has sought the full cooperation of all members to uphold the directives and said the regulations will be strictly monitored at all times.
