Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The Peren Students’ Union has vehemently condemned the assault and extortion on two women by some unidentified individuals said to be underground cadres on August 4. The women were on their way home from Dimapur in a truck that was carrying sand and bricks when the anti-social assaulted and extorted from the women. One of the women was an elderly and a senior citizen of Peren.
According to the press release issued by PSU (N) General Secretary Mireulung Sephe, the incident occurred near Zhulkhu Village area (Peren-Dimapur-Kohima road via Medziphema) at around 6:30 pm wherein two drunken anonymous miscreants claiming to be from some underground factions camping in the area stopped the vehicle abruptly and demanded money from the two women. The elderly woman intervened saying that they had spent all the money, the scoundrels did not even spare her and assaulted her saying “Maiki ki ase?”
The truck driver was beaten up and the underground cadres fled with the keys and mobile handsets. The PSU (N) while condemning the act of cowardice and intolerance on women also requested upon the responsible administration and police to nab the culprits so that unwarranted situation are avoided for the safety of the travelers in the near future. It may also be mentioned that this is not the first instance of such incidents in this area and call upon right thinking organization to condemn such dastardly acts.
