Under the patronage of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), the Sumi Wrestling Association (SWA) in collaboration with NWA today launched 10 days long Intensive Wrestling Training Camp 2024 at Town Hall, Pughoboto.
NWA vice president (General) Viketouzo Meyase graced the inaugural session of the camp. Meyase urged Sumis to be part of the NWA championships and other wrestling events.
He also extended special invitation to the SWA wrestlers to be part of the forthcoming 17th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship 2024 tentatively scheduled on 4 December 2024 at Khuochiezie, Kohima
He shared the overwhelming performance of the NWA at the recently concluded AITWPF 12th National Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Championship 2024 wherein Nagaland team brought home 54 medals.
Meyase also informed that the Asian Belt Wrestling Championship is scheduled to be held at Kohima from 17 to 23 November 2024.
Meyase added that the Naga style wrestling is all set to be included as medal event during the Asian championship.
26 wrestlers including 5 women registered for this 10 days wrestling training camp at Pughoboto.
NWA prominent wrestlers Kewecholo Akami, Rüüzetuo Visienyü and Puikube Zeliang will assist the camp as coaches and trainers.
SWA president N. Kitoshe Kiho thanked the NWA for conducting the wrestling training camp at Pughoboto and hoped that Sumi youth will do well in Naga style wrestling in the coming days.
Earlier, the inaugural program was chaired by Tokiho Swu, General Secretary SWA while greetings was shared by Hokiqhe Sheqi, Vice Chairman, Pughoboto Adhoc Town Council. Vote of thanks was proposed by Khumtsa Swu, Vice President, SWA.
