The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Kohima Rural/Urban Division in collaboration with Phesama Village Council and Kigwema Village Council today conducted a cleanliness drive at Naga Heritage Village Kisama as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in line with Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU).
Kisama is the venue of the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland.
In keynote address, E. Mhonbemo Patton, Principal Secretary PHED Nagaland, said that the campaign will cover all the towns and villages across the state.
Some selected areas will be given special attention, for which Kisama is one of it, he said.
Stating that the 25th anniversary of the Hornbill Festival will be celebrated this year from December 1, Patton stressed on the need to keep Kisama clean for tourists to have a memorable experience not only the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas but also the scenic beauty of Nagaland.
He acknowledged Phesama and Kigwema villages for cooperation, support and looks forward for active participation till the start of the Hornbill Festival.
‘PHED, VCs demonstrates commitment to improving environmental hygiene’
The joint efforts of the PHED, village councils, and community members demonstrated a shared commitment to improving environmental hygiene and sanitation practices for the benefit of all, according to Vibou Seyie, IEC & WASH Consultant, PHED Kohima Urban Division.
Such collaborations are essential in fostering a culture of cleanliness and ensuring the well-being of the community at large, she stated.
Swachhata Hi Seva aims to promote and maintain cleanliness by engaging various stakeholders and communities.
It is a joint effort to address dark spot and illegal dumping in both rural and urban areas, with a focus on raising awareness, encouraging community participation, and fostering a clean and sustainable environment, she added.
Mass shramdaan (mass cleanliness drive) is being conducted at all the villages, across the state such as cleaning of vulnerable garbage sites, traditional springs, ponds, water sources, village gates, meeting places etc. as part of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
The cleanliness drive witnessed segregation of plastic waste by the volunteers and later transported to Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site.
Earlier, Swachhata pledge was administered by Lhousikhono Zinyu, State S&H Consultant, WSSO, PHED Nagaland while vote of thanks was proposed by Bizo M. Kuotsu, chairman Phesama Village Council. The Campaign was sponsored by WSSO, PHED Nagaland.
