Swachhata Pakhwada -Swachhata Hi Seva conducted across Nagaland

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): As announced by the Nagaland Government, the mega cleanliness drive ‘Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva’ which was rescheduled to September 30 instead of October 1 was conducted across the state today. 

In Kohima, Governor La Ganesan launched the one hour Shramdaan for Swachhata Nagaland at Raj Bhavan junction where officials from Raj Bhavan, District Administration and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) led by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C and KMC Administrator Lanusenla L Peseyie joined the Swachhata activities on ground.

In the run up to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2023, responding to the call of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a nationwide cleanliness drive, ‘Shramdaan for Swachhata’ cleanliness drive was undertaken under the supervisions of Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima compounds and the areas in and around in the vicinity of Raj Bhavan on September 30. As per the notification from the state government, the mass cleanliness drive which was scheduled on October 1, a Sunday, was rescheduled and conducted across the state on Saturday.  (Photo Courtesy: PRO Raj Bhavan)  

Keeping in line with the directives from the state government, the cleanliness drive was carried out in all the wards/ colonies and business establishments under the supervision of Kohima Municipal Council.

The ward Panchayats, Sector Sanitation Committee, security personnel, school students and the general public participated in the cleanliness drive. 

In Tuensang, the mass cleanliness drive was led by the district administration. Deputy Commissioner, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa in a short speech expressed gratitude for the active participation from all departments and ward to clean Tuensang. The cleanliness drive was participated by all the staff of government departments in Tuensang, students, wards, 28th Assam Rifles and business establishment.

As a part of Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva 2023, a mass cleanliness drive was undertaken at Phek town under the initiative of Deputy Commissioner, Kuko Mero at the DC Complex Phek.  All the government employees, residents partook in the cleanliness drive at their respective office premises and in all the colonies and wards under the initiative of the colony ward chairman/GBs. Shopkeepers too participated in the drive by cleaning the surroundings in and around their respective shops.    

In Wokha, Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Home, Y Patton joined the district administration led Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Ranjan. Patton in a short address said keeping India clean or Swachhata Hi Seva is initiated by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to keep our surrounding clean for healthy environment.

The Dy CM also visited the SP office Wokha and joined the jawans in the cleanliness drive. He inspected the new SP office complex which is currently under construction, also urged and appealed the contractor to complete the building by March 2024 for the inauguration.

Along with the rest of the districts in Nagaland, students and citizens of Zunheboto participated in the cleanliness drive as part of Swachhata Pakhwada -Swachhata hi Seva (SHS) at Zunheboto on September 30. In Niuland, a social work conducted to mark the Swachhata Pakhwada -Swachhata Hi Seva saw mass participation. 

At Tening, citizens of Tening town, educational institutions, religious organisation, civil society organizations, district administration and town youths actively took part in the social work.

In Medziphema, people from different sections, educational institutions, NGOs, government departments, both state and central village leaders and citizens come together to clean streets, public space and surrounding areas. Medziphema administration and MTC provided assistance and executed the work. The mass social work was a great success with active participation from all public and government institutions.

Under the initiative of Tizit Town Council, a mass social work was conducted at Tizit. ADC office staff, DBs, police personnel under SDPO Tizit, police station Tizit and NCC GHSS Tizit, led by ADC and Administrator, Tizit Town Council, Zhoi Lohe, took charge of the welcome gate and bazaar area and gave it a fresh look.

People from all walks of life participated in the social work by cleaning their respective offices, institutions, establishments and residential areas.

In Meluri, a mass social work was conducted, wherein all government employees, students & public of Meluri Town participated in the cleanliness drive in their own respective schools, offices and residence under the initiative of the district administration.
