Full military honours were accorded to the heroes of 1971 Indo Pak war as Swarnim Vijay Varsh victory flame reached in the state capital Kohima on October 11. 

Various dignitaries including war veterans laid wreaths in honour of heroes of 1971 Indo Pak war and later a welcome ceremony took place at Kenguruse Hall, Assam Rifles camp Kohima.

Among others who laid wreaths included; Lt Gen AS Bedi, chairman CFMG, Major Gen. VPS Kaushik, IG, Assam Rifles (North), T John Longkumer, DGP Nagaland, Wg Cdr Rajeev Dong (Retd), Director Rajya Sainik Board, Brig Abhinav Gurha, Cdr 5 sector Assam Rifles,  Martin Pienyü, IGP (Int) Nagaland Police.

Addressing the ceremony, Major Gen VPS Kaushik, IG, Assam Rifles (North) said that after halting four/five days in Nagaland, the flame will be moved to Manipur.

Stating that this flame has travelled through the different towns and villages across the nation, he said “It is hallmark of valour, sacrifices and fortitude of our brave soldiers.”

Major Gen Kaushik also said that today’s celebration is also a tribute to the great sons who made the supreme sacrifice for the Motherland.

Apart from floral tributes and felicitation of 1971 war veterans, tree plantation was also carried out in commemoration of the arrival of the flame here.

The function also witnessed screening of documentary on 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame, which commemorates the golden jubilee of Indian victory in 1971 war, was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from National War Memorial, New Delhi on December 16 last year.

Mentionably, the flame entered Nagaland on October 9 at Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur.
