TaFMA taking forward visual art to greater heights

Kohima, February 26 (MExN): With a vision to take forward visual art to greater heights in the state, the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) conducted ‘Art Talk’ programme on February 25 and 26. Resource persons were Anupam Saikia, Lecturer, Department of Painting, Government College of Arts & Crafts, Assam and Rima Kalita, Research Scholar, IIT, Guwahati. 

Inaugurating the programme, Advisor of TaFMA, Theja Meru said, “the real purpose of arts education is to complete human’s capability to lead successful and productive lives in a society. Art is not a luxury, but a path to educate the whole individual to thrive. A great civilization is an Art of the highest order. 

He stressed on three important positive aspects of art: it repairs, gives life and heals; it unifies people; and it is a pollination agent and acts as a catalyst to bring out the best in cultural and life expressions. He reminded the artists not only to paint for the sake of survival, but to take it as a serious calling and try to be an agent of change. 

A press release issued by Dr Hovithal Sothu, Project Director, TaFMA said that 18 visual artists of the state are attending the ‘art talk’ and it is coordinated by Adu Keditsu, Manager, Electronics and Lights.
