Thanks to the Opposition Leader, the Chief Minister and his loyal cabinet has got its time to rest and recuperate
The president’s Rule being imposed in Nagaland is somewhat a big joke, for it has been a peaceful State as compared to the neighboring States like Assam and Manipur, where very day a bomb is going off or someone getting murdered or kidnapped, but the Government holds on due to it’s prestige and pride issue. But for us in Nagaland, we are so immature with our politics that we tend to make a mountain of every molehill, and the worst is that, it is not the individuals who suffer, but the public, plus we become a laughing stack to the Central Government as well as the Armed Forces, for we are dropping off our weaknesses on their laps to utilize and monopolize upon, thus capitalizing the whole issue, which is somewhat unnecessary when the coming General Elections are so near. It may be a part time victory for the opposition in the State, but come February 2008, if they fail to produce any positive results, it is going to be political suicide and I am sure that the Centre will not bail them out all the time, for they have their own problems.
PR rule had been expected since last month, with dissidents jumping from one party to other, but I think it was a foolish move, since the present Chief Minister will come back to power, my predictions are unbiased and got nothing to do with party affiliations, but what he has achieved in the past few years, no CM has ever achieved in two or three terms straight. Let us be realistic for a change, for no tribe can afford to segregate itself, for once alienated, it will them who will suffer, and I am sure the wise tribal leaders know this, and for the benefit of their tribe, regardless of how much tribalism is being instigated and propagated, the wise will always prevail, for every Naga knows that deep in their heart that they care for their own tribe and it’s immediate future and will not want to be left out in this race for development, regardless of one or two politicians and national workers who are doing it for their own gain.
I trust the wisdom of the senior politicians, HOHO Leaders, National Workers (regardless of faction) and I know that they will never let the nation or State down, especially in such a crucial moment of our political change. Our ideologies and beliefs may differ, but our goal and aim is the same, therefore come PR rule or not, it will not make A DIFFERENCE, PLUS THE Army realizes that their Head now (the Governor) is a Party man and not an ex-army officer or Central Officer, thus they will be more careful, for all their hard work in gaining the publics favor and improving their image will never be allowed to be tarnished so easily.
The paper headlines yesterday or should I say the 3rd of Jan 2008 was not a surprise at all, but it was just something every insider was contemplating. The unfortunate thing is that the Department heads has lost a whole month, where they could have done a lot fro the public, but the fortunate thing is that, being attached to the MP’s it does not effect us one bit. All these years of listening to over smart PS’s and PA’s has finally paid off, not that I will do the same, but I feel for those who had let the power go to their heads and became more important then the Minister himself. I wonder how they will face the public now? That is why I always preached/wrote on humility, for I too had suffered from a similar virus “O - - - S - - - - Virus” when someone close to me was a Minister, but when he lost, it took a while adjusting with the people again, and the process was surely demeaning and Humbling, thus I remember writing a lot on these, so that others may not go through the same experience. For those who had listened, they sure will understand now, but for those who gave two hoots about my warning, can now suffer the consequences. I do not mean to say that my advice is expensive or priceless and precious, but I write what I think and what is on my.
In conclusion, this few months will pass without a notice, thus the politicking will reach its climax, but this time, it will be an electorate of the politically educated and not money alone, for the public has suffered for too long, and most people I have spoken too, are in the view that it is time someone educated and wise is elected plus the candidate needs to be committed and loyal and not jump parties just because “they were not served eggs during breakfast.” It is not so easy to be a politician, but choosing to be one, it is a life time commitment to serve and not to be served, to be told and not to tell and to be responsible for their actions, be it morally, ethically or financially. I do not know about others, but this is what I am looking for in a Candidate and not looking for age and experience, for we have had enough of them. Age will never be a barrier, nor will status or tribe but it will ultimately be the Candidates personality which will get him the votes. One last thing before I end this article – I am glad that the Chief Minister and his loyal cabinet has got its time to rest and recuperate, for they are now free from tension and worries for atleast a month or so. They should make the most of this one month Holiday “given by Opposition Leader.” Haah!
