The Mount Olive College, Kohima (MOCK) organized an ‘awareness talk on Systematic Voters' Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP)’ at its college auditorium on September 29. It was organized by department of Political Science, MOCK with Internal Quality Assessment Cell, MOCK and sponsored by Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima.
Shanavas C, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Kohima spoke on the occasion as the resource person.
He said SVEEP is the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy and also to give basic knowledge related to the electoral process in India. The primary goal of SVEEP is to build a truly participative democracy in India by encouraging all eligible citizens to vote and make an informed decision during the elections.
He called upon all the eligible students to enrol their name and participate in the coming election and cast their vote in democratic manner and participate in a clean and fair election. He mentioned that during the election, most of the voters look for monetary benefit and later aspect development from the winning candidate. However, if the trend continues in this manner development will hardly take place, he said. In this, Shanavas urged the public to cast their vote in a democratic process with clean and fair election.
The dignitaries who attended the event includes: Shiwoto Wotsa, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rtd) Lok Ayukta Nagaland also the Chairman, Board of Deacons, Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima; Tokheni Sema, Associate Professor and Vice Principal (Rtd), Kohima Science College Jotsoma and the Chairperson Governing Body and Managing Director of MOCK; Er. Hekato Yeptho, Joint Director, Land Resources government of Nagaland and also the member Governing Body MOCK.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Swedezhono Tsükrü, Acting Principal, MOCK while Newtoli Zhimo, Chaplain, MOCK invoked God’s blessing. Welcome address was delivered by Tokheni Sema, chairperson & Managing Director.
Meanwhile, Zinia Gangmei, HoD, political science co-ordinator, ICAC, MOCK proposed vote of thanks and while Lovitoli Zhimomi pronounced benediction.
