The Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Saturday said Centre will come up with “tangible solution” to the protracted Naga political problem, without causing any adverse impact on states adjoining Nagaland.

He also said the Centre would come out with the final version of the Naga Framework Agreement, signed between it and the NSCN (IM) in August 2015, to solve the Naga imbroglio within the tenure of the Narendra Modi government.

According to proceedings of a Gauhati press conference carried by various media outlets, the MoS Home also assured that the final agreement “will not have any adverse impact on other Northeastern states” and “territorial integrity of states will be protected.”

"I can assure to the people of Northeast that talks are on with the NSCN (IM) for a political solution and that there will not be any ramifications on boundary of the states. There are some misconceptions about the Naga peace process," said Rijjiju, according to a report in the Economics Times.

The Minister was in Assam connection with BJP’s foundation day anniversary on April 6.

Further, the MoS reportedly told the press conference that “the issue of sovereignty and some other serious issues” were dropped.

“He said the sovereignty and ‘other serious issues’ had been dropped from the NSCN (IM)'s charter of demands and the Naga Framework Agreement was signed under the ambit of the Constitution, PTI news agency reported.

On the final version of the Naga Framework Agreement, he said, "We (Centre) are progressing with absolute clarity. The unique history of the Nagas will be recognised and we will come out with a clear, tangible solution, it added. Asked about the Naga peace talks, where the framework agreement came in for criticism from various quarters because the content is still not known, Rijiju said, “Many people do not understand the framework agreement,” The Hindustan Times stated.

“Rijiju said the Centre ‘is committed to a clear, tangible solution,’ and pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Nagaland in the run-up to the elections, had spoken about a solution in a few months,” it said.

Peace talks with other groups, including ULFA (Progressive), are also heading in the right direction, Rijju announced. “On the ongoing talks with the Arbind Rajkhowa-led ULFA (P), he said the Centre has agreed to the genuine demands of the group in principle and instructions have been given to give the settlement a final shape," it added.

Giving his reaction on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s proposal of issuing of work permit to Bangladesh nationals, Rijiju said that the proposal given by positive in one sense, but before accepting it the entire mechanism must be made clear, so that it does not have an adverse impact.

He said the Home and External Affairs Ministry will examine the proposal.
