Tangkhul Baptist Church appeals NSCN-K to revoke edict

Dimapur, Feb 8 (MExN): Tangkhul Baptist Church appeals to the NSCN-K to revoke the “extreme penalty” imposed on the Tangkhul community as well as refrain from disturbing students from the hill districts of Manipur who are appearing for their examinations in Nagaland. The church holds the view that, rather, the NSCN-K being an authority unto itself also has the responsibility to give protection.

The church appealed that revocation be made on humanitarian grounds and in the name of Jesus Christ. Stating that killing in the name of nation-building is contrary to the teachings of Christ, the church reminded the NSCN-K of its responsibility to protect. “Even if we build a nation without God’s blessing, God will destroy it (Psalms). As you are the guardian and authority of the government your responsibility is to give protection to any individual irrespective of caste, creed and religion except individual (who commit) crime against individual or offence to the government” an appeal from Pastor Rui Chumhao Shimrah stated.

It also held that leaders of both the underground factions should come before God and seek His forgiveness for reconciliation and complete healing of “the wound”. This would also help in achieving the objectives and make good the sacrifices made towards building the Naga nation.
