TCLPF condemns Manipur killings

DIMAPUR, JUNE 18 (MExN): The Tirap, Changlang & Longding Peoples Forum (TCLPF) has condemned the killing of civilians reported on June 13 in Ksatupokpi area, Kangpokpi district, Manipur describing the incident as a "brutal, heinous and inhuman" act and calling for an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation.

In a press statement issued, the forum said the incident constituted "a grave assault on the sanctity of human life and a blatant violation of fundamental human rights," adding that "no cause, ideology, or circumstance can ever justify the taking of innocent lives in such a cruel and merciless manner."

The forum maintained that the reported atrocities had inflicted irreparable pain on the bereaved families while threatening peace, harmony and communal coexistence in the region.

It urged the State and Central Governments to direct the concerned law enforcement agencies to conduct an "immediate, impartial, transparent and thorough investigation" into the incident and ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The TCLPF further called on the authorities to strengthen law and order mechanisms and ensure the safety, security and protection of all citizens, irrespective of community or background. It stated that any delay or inaction in addressing such incidents would undermine public confidence in the rule of law and the administration.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the forum conveyed its condolences and prayed for eternal peace for the deceased and strength and comfort for their families.
