Teacher shortage: Student body not to allow functioning of GMS Hurong village

Kiphire, April 22 (MExN): The Hurong Village Students’ Union (HVSU) has resolved to disallow functioning of Government Middle School (GMS) at Hurong village, Amahator HQ under Kiphire district from April 25, 2022 due to shortage of teachers.

Highlighting the plight of the school, HVSU, President, Yopichum in a press release said that the present strength  of teachers refuse to take up the subjects in higher classes as they are solely meant for primary section. “It basically needs graduate teachers to take up the higher classes,” he stated.

The HVSU informed that the union is executing its maximum capacity at its disposal by deploying additional volunteering staff since the commencement of its academic session 2022.

While expressing strongest disappointment, HVSU alleged the Department of School Education (DoSE), Government of Nagaland of applying delay tactics “trying to divert the attention” from issues put forth by the union.

It also mentioned that the HVSU had appealed to the Principal Director, School Education via letter no. dated Res.HVSU-22, PR-15-22 ‘urging to immediately revoke the NOC issued to Aseba Sangtam G/T English who is deputed as EPRC coordinator, Kiphire and to provide Math and Science teachers respectively.’

The union stated that “the NOC was clearly issued to Aseba Sangtam on a condition that he should be reverted back to his present place of posting as an when school requires him, and now that the school requires his service, the department has no right to claim any lame excuses to delay the urgent requirement.”

‘However, the department had turned a blind eye and deaf ear to our genuine demand,’ it stated.

Therefore, the union has resolved not to allow the school to function “until the department comes up with positive response and meet its genuine demand.” It cautioned that the department concerned would be held solely responsible of any situation that may arise out of it.
