Teachers in Nagaland acclaimed for exemplary resilience

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi; Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio; along with other legislators and the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today issued messages of solidarity with the teachers of Nagaland on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

The Department of School Education had informed that there would be no Teacher’s Day celebration in the State due to the 7 days national mourning declared by the Central Government after the passing away of former President, Pranab Mukherjee.

The Nagaland Governor lauded teachers for being constantly engaged in strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of youth, society and country.

“Teachers are executing the responsibility of creating awareness as well as opening the mind of people by instilling good values, morals, and ethics. Apart from academics, teachers stand by us at every step to guide, motivate and inspire to become better people,”

“The influences of teachers and their experiences remain with the students for a lifetime. Our students, when they come out, must be an asset to society - employable, wealth creator with concern for the environment, ethical person and most of all a good human being,” the Governor stated.

The Governor observed that the pandemic has created an unprecedented scenario and challenges for teaching. “Teachers who feel inhibited by technology will have to learn the online teaching and class management.  The world is adjusting to the new normal of distant teaching and learning,” he said.

Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio meanwhile stated that teaching is one of the noblest professions, though a very challenging one at that, which does not merely involve the process of teaching a child from books but also of inculcating moral values and life skills.

“The impact a teacher has on a child is one that lasts a lifetime. In our country, ever since ancient times the relationship between a teacher and his pupil has been one that is almost sacred- as a teacher has always been highly esteemed,” he stated.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the CM said that the role played by teachers has also undergone a paradigm shift- and teachers have been compelled to use various communications technologies to reach out to students and impart education.

“As teachers face these new challenges, I exhort them to keep themselves updated with the latest technologies, information and teaching techniques, so as to better meet the high expectations of the students,” he encouraged.

The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) also extended greetings to the teachers and thanked them for having shown “exemplary resilience during this COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The efforts and hard work put in by the teachers, despite the lockdown measures set in place by concerned authorities and other technological constrains, to adapt with the continuous cycle of education by keeping students engaged with their academic and other educational activities is well appreciated,” a press release from the NSF President, Ninoto Awomi and Education Secretary, Kegwayhun Tep stated.

It expressed confidence that the students' community are in “noble and qualified hands which will usher the younger generation of Nagas into a new era of peace and prosperity.” It further hoped that the teachers continue to take pride in and to continue upholding this noble profession by maintaining the highest degree of integrity and dignity.
