Agitating teachers of constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) suspended their stirs from Monday after meeting with chief minister N Biren Singh.
The teachers of five constituent colleges of the varsity were on strike by abstaining from discharging their duties under the aegis of Ad hoc Committee of the Constituent Colleges of Dhanamanjuri University since January 5 last. The striking teachers have been demanding for the halting of the process of recruitment of fresh teachers of the cluster varsity.
The committee has been demanding absorption of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges of DMU before any fresh recruitment of faculty. The authority of DMU has been processing for recruitment of 88 assistant professors of the varsity. Denouncing the move of the authority, the teachers had abstained from taking online and offline classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate classes from January 5. And, since January 6, the teachers were staging a series of sit-in-protest on rotation basis at the campuses of the constituent colleges till today.
Today, also the protest was staged at the campus of the DM College of Science.
Talking to reporters at the protest site, Dr Longjam Rajen, assistant professor of the college expressed strong denouncement to the move of the varsity authority while alleging the move for fresh appointment of teachers has put the existing in a dilemma. He added that if the varsity authority failed to address their demands first, they are ready to launch intense forms of agitations.
