Even as there is no immediate plan to re-open educational institutions which remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching and non-teaching staff of government colleges in Manipur were instructed to attend to their duties in their respective colleges.

The instruction to ensure attending their duties to the teaching and non-teaching of all colleges under the department was given in an order of the department of higher and technical education issued on Friday.

The order reminded an order of the state Home department issued on October 31 pertaining to the fresh guidelines for ‘unlocked’ to be applied in the entire state.

While attending their duties in their respective colleges, the staff must discharge their duties following proper ‘COVID appropriate behaviour’ as issued by the Central and state government from time to time.

All principal(s) and principal(s)-in-charge of all government colleges under the department are also instructed to ensure strict compliance of the order.

The order finally warned that necessary actions will be taken up against those who do not adhere to the order.

It can be mentioned here that all the educational institutions including schools and colleges across the state remained closed since March 12 as a part of government precautionary measures to prevent spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The state government ordered closure of the educational institutions well ahead of the country-wide lockdown that commenced from March 24.

Since then, both teaching and non-teaching staff of the government schools and colleges have not been not attending to their duties.
