Dimapur, September 30 (MExN): The Department of Industries and Commerce (DIC), in collaboration with Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (NIDC), conducted a two-day Technology Clinic on “Digital & Mechanical Interventions in Handloom and Handicraft Processing” at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur, from September 29 to 30.
The clinic was attended by 40 MSMEs and focused on strengthening practical knowledge and technical skills in the use of digital and mechanical technologies for handloom, handicraft, bamboo and traditional jewellery-related activities.
The first day focused on handloom and textile development, with sessions on natural dyeing, sustainable finishing, quality standardisation and market-oriented production. Participants were also introduced to the Digitisation of Traditional Handloom Motifs and Pre-Loom CAD (DigiBunai), aimed at integrating digital tools into design development and preservation of traditional motifs.
The second day covered handicrafts, bamboo products and traditional jewellery. Sessions included NHDC support and market and production processes for traditional jewellery, along with a practical clinic on additive manufacturing and 3D printing at NTTC.
Participants also received hands-on training in bamboo splitting, slicing, sizing, value-added manufacturing, utility stick production and quality finishing.
According to the department, the clinic sought to promote technology adoption, value addition, quality improvement and greater market opportunities for traditional craft-based products.
Technical experts and resource persons from NTTC, NHDC, Naga Feather Pvt Ltd, the Weaving Service Centre and Kuls Polyethylene Product Unit supported the sessions and demonstrations.
The programme was organised under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, a World Bank-supported initiative of the Government of India focused on improving market access, credit availability and capacity building for MSMEs.
In a press release, the department stated that access to modern machinery and technology would help local enterprises upgrade production processes and remain competitive in changing markets.
