Newmai News Network Imphal | October 27 Manipur today launched the Tele-Education Network and also inaugurated the State Interactive Terminal of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). "Tele-Education Network is one important aspect of SATCOM applications in the North Eastern States under the Tele-Education Project. The EDUSAT (also GSAT-3) satellite is solely dedicated for the education sector by ISRO to the nation," a DIPR report said. It was launched on September 20, 2004 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, in Sriharikota, the DIPR report added. According to the DIPR report, ‘EDUSAT’ is India’s first thematic satellite used extensively to cater to a wide range of interactive educational delivery modes like, one-way TV broadcast, video conferencing, computer conferencing, web-based instructions, etc. It was configured to meet India’s growing demand for distance education using audio-visual medium and employing Direct-to-home mode, direct satellite broadcasting with interactive class-room capabilities, the report added. Tele-Education Network has been implemented in all the North East State of India. In Manipur, Twenty-five Satellites Interactive Terminals (SITs) have been setup at nine DIETs, one HTTI and SCERT and fourteen higher secondary schools, the DIPR report also said. The State Interactive Terminal (SIT) of SCERT inaugurated today will function as teaching end. Meanwhile, appreciating the efforts of the officials of SCERT, Manipur Education minister, Radheshyam said that the implementation of Tele-Education Network in Manipur is setting a new milestone in the field of education advancement. The inaugural ceremony for the Implementation of the Tele-Education Network in Manipur was organised by Directorate of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), in collaboration with North Eastern Space Application Centre (NE-SAC) Meghalaya & ISRO (Ahmedabad). Radheshyam said that the SCERT has been working in the best possible way to strengthen the education sector in terms of technical and qualitative development. Teachers, he said, are the architects of future having a crucial role to play in educating, nurturing and carving the students as a good human. Encouraging the teachers, he urged to establish close relationship with the students. He appealed to narrate folktales to the students imbibed with high moral values to enrich the moral quality of the children. Director SCERT, Dr. M. Meenakumari Devi, concerned officials and teachers attended the inaugural function.
