In the second semifinal of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2024, Telongjem FC edged past Super Seniors FC with a last-minute penalty to claim a 1-0 victory at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Monday, advancing to the final in pursuit of their fourth consecutive MDFA title.

The match began at a slow pace, with both teams appearing cautious in the hot weather and reserving energy for the later stages. The first half saw minimal chances, with both sides equally matched and neither able to break through each other’s defenses. By halftime, the score remained goalless, with the game dominated by a measured, tactical approach.

The tempo began to shift in the second half, with both teams pressing harder midway through. However, even as the pace increased, clear scoring opportunities remained scarce as Super Seniors and Telongjem fought to maintain control.

Just before the end of regular time, Telongjem were awarded a crucial penalty. Pauhuilungbe Pame confidently stepped up to take the shot and converted, putting Telongjem ahead 1-0 despite the Super Seniors’ goalkeeper guessing correctly.

With the final whistle, Telongjem FC secured their place in the championship match, where they will face Konyak Students Union Mokokchung (KSUM), who are vying for their first MDFA Trophy title. Telongjem, aiming for a historic fourth consecutive win, will look to cement their legacy, while KSUM hope to deliver a major upset in the final showdown on October 30.
