
DIMAPUR, MAY 25 (MExN): After the ruckus created on Friday by suspected Adivasi workers at Mariani, Assam, the situation seems to have calmed down to some extent. In spite of the simmered state of affairs, vehicles from Nagaland did not travel through the Mariani route on Saturday, as advised by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung. The DC today informed that no untoward incidents have taken place since yesterday. He further stated that he has sent two messages, one on Friday and the other Saturday, to the DC of Jorhat urging him to look into the matter and book the culprits responsible.
The Superintendent of Police, Jorhat, while appealing for calm, informed that investigation is underway and that action would be taken against the culprits. The SP also reiterated the Mokokchung DC’s advise for travelers from Nagaland to avoid the Mariani route. She advised travelers to consider other routes for a brief period of time. The SDPO of Mariani informed that a case has been registered at the Mariani police station. The two cars damaged on Friday are in police custody, informed the Jorhat SP. The SP further stated that she has not received any communication from any party to claim the vehicles. She said that the owners could contact the Police and after legal formalities claim the vehicles.
