Territorial Army launches expedition to commemorate Platinum Jubilee

Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The Territorial Army (TA) has embarked on an expedition to mark its Platinum Jubilee, celebrating 75 years since its formation. The expedition, which spans approximately 5,500 km, will take the 21-member team from the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh to the southernmost tip of India, Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Flagged off from Siachen Glacier on July 30, the team reached New Delhi on August 21, where they paid homage at the National War Memorial. The next phase of the journey was officially launched today in New Delhi by Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information Systems and Coordination), with Lieutenant General Raju Baijal, Director General of Territorial Army, and other senior Army officials in attendance.

The expedition will see the team cycling through the entire length of the nation to Chennai, before moving on to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The journey will culminate at Indira Point, where the Indian Tricolour will be hoisted underwater at a depth of 40 meters—a symbolic act to mark the achievement.

Throughout the expedition, the team is engaging in public awareness activities focused on national integration, environmental consciousness, and promoting a deeper understanding of the Army. As they traverse the country, they are also paying tribute to veterans and the families of military personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
